“Petroleum Refinery Engineering (PRE)” has always adhered to the purpose of "focusing on engineering technology, highlighting industrial application, giving consideration to scientific research, and focusing on innovation and development", and continuously improved the quality of the journal. It is a core journal of SINOPEC and has been included in more than ten retrieval databases and abstract magazines at home and abroad, including the full text database of Chinese journals, Wanfang data knowledge service platform, Chinese science and technology journal database, Superstar Learning Link and Superstar Discovery Product Data Platform, etc. It has also been included in the famous foreign abstract magazines “Chemical Abstracts (CA) ”, Elsevier Scopus database of Netherlands and EBSCO database of the United States, and the database of Japan Science and Technology Agency. It has been selected into the top 100 journals and the top 20 digital journals in the national petrochemical industry.

PRE is a scientific and technological journal sponsored by SINOPEC Luoyang Engineering Co., Ltd. It was founded by academician Chen Junwu in 1971, formerly known as“refining design”. Its monthly publication began in 1999 and the journal was renamed as “Petroleum Refinery Engineering” in 2003. PRE mainly reports the new achievements in science and technology in both domestic and overseas petroleum refining and petrochemical industries, introduces development and commercial application of state-of-the-art processes, new materials and new equipment, presents new methods and experience in project engineering and project management as well as experience in technical innovation and improvement of economic benefits of refiners and petrochemical producers. PRE has the columns of: OVERVIEW, PLANT DESIGN, PROCESSING, DESIGN METHODOLOGY, PROCESS EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY, PIPING TECHNOLOGY, AUTOMATIC CONTROL, SMART FACTORY, COMPUTER APPLICATION, OIL STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION, CATALYST AND ASSISTANT, OIL PRODUCT AND ADDITIVE, ENERGY UTILIZATION, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, SAFETY AND HEALTH and TECHNO-ECONOMICS, etc.

Academician Chen Junwu has been the honorary director of the editorial committee for a long time to plan and guide the development of the journal. With the digital development of journals, PRE has the courage to explore digital publishing. It has taken the lead in joining digital publishing platforms such as priority digital publishing and Superstar publishing in the petrochemical industry. It has taken the lead in publishing the annual ranking of highly influential articles of the journal, and has taken the lead in putting forward the Implementation Plan for Green and Low Carbon Journals, which has been implemented as planned, creating a precedent for green and low carbon journals of Chinese science and technology journals. The Implementation Plan for Green and Low Carbon Journals issued by PRE is the first in China. PRE will continue to summarize experience, optimize the process of running the journal, and explore a new path for the green and low carbon running of Chinese science and technology journals.
